Facility Design & Build
Cannabis facility design, from site selection to opening day.
Custom design of cultivation and post-harvest space for new sites, expansions, rebuilds and retrofits. We plan the rooms, systems, power, workflow, budget and timeline so the facility delivers the quality and output the business needs.
What we plan
Every room and system, designed around production.
Cultivation and post-harvest requirements drive the design, so the building supports the quality, capacity and workflow the business needs.
Site selection and feasibility
Building suitability, utilities, zoning fit and the capacity each candidate site can support, before you sign.
Power and electrical planning
Lighting and HVAC load estimates, service size and phasing, so the electrical plan supports full production.
Cultivation room design
Propagation, mother, veg and flower rooms sized and laid out around canopy, plant flow and the crop calendar.
HVAC and climate control
Cooling, heating, dehumidification, airflow and CO₂ designed to hold environmental targets in every room and season.
Irrigation and fertigation
Water source, treatment, irrigation and fertigation systems matched to the grow method and room design.
Lighting and environmental controls
Fixture selection, layout and control systems that give growers precise, consistent conditions.
Drying, curing and storage
Dry and cure rooms with controlled temperature and humidity, and secure storage that protects finished product.
Trim, packaging and workflow
Trim, packaging and staging areas laid out for efficient product flow, comfortable working space and inventory control.
Safety and Cal/OSHA-ready design
Layouts, egress, ergonomics, chemical storage and working conditions planned with worker safety requirements in view.
Site to opening day
Six phases, one accountable plan.
Engage us for the full journey or for the phases you need. Select a phase to see what it covers.
Phase 1 of 6
Site selection and feasibility
Choose the right site before committing capital.
- Site and building evaluation
- Zoning, utility and access review
- Available power and service upgrades
- Go or no-go recommendation
Phase 2 of 6
Capacity and concept design
Define what the facility needs to produce.
- Production targets and canopy plan
- Room program from propagation to packaging
- Plant and product flow
- Projected output and operating outcomes
Phase 3 of 6
Systems design
Specify the systems that create the growing environment.
- HVAC, dehumidification and climate control
- Irrigation and fertigation
- Lighting and environmental controls
- Electrical load and phasing
Phase 4 of 6
Budget, timeline and vendors
Turn the design into a plan you can fund and schedule.
- Capital budget and phasing
- Build timeline and critical path
- Equipment and contractor RFPs
- Bid evaluation and negotiation
Phase 5 of 6
Build oversight
Keep the build on plan, on budget and on standard.
- Owner's-side progress and quality reviews
- Change control against budget and timeline
- Vendor and contractor coordination
- Issue escalation and resolution
Phase 6 of 6
Commissioning and opening day
Open ready to produce, with a trained team.
- Systems commissioning and environmental testing
- SOPs, staffing plan and training
- Opening-day readiness checklist
- First-harvest support and stabilization
Architects, engineers and contractors produce stamped drawings and permitted work. Summit defines the cultivation and operating requirements their plans need to meet, and represents your interests through the build.
What you receive
A facility plan you can fund, build and run.
Every output ties design decisions to production outcomes and the operating model.
- Site feasibility assessment
- Facility program and room layouts
- Power, HVAC, irrigation and lighting requirements
- Projected capacity and output model
- Capital budget and build timeline
- Equipment and contractor RFP packages
- Commissioning plan and opening-day checklist
- SOPs, staffing plan and training
How it connects
Connected services
Most engagements draw on more than one practice. That is the reason to have cultivation, operations and people expertise at the same table.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can you help us choose between sites?
Yes. We evaluate candidate sites for building suitability, utilities, available power, workflow potential and the capacity each can support, then give a clear recommendation.
Do you replace our architect or engineer?
No. We define the cultivation and operating requirements and coordinate with your architect, engineers and contractors, who handle stamped drawings, permits and construction.
Can you redesign an existing facility?
Yes. Many projects are rebuilds or retrofits: reworking rooms, HVAC, irrigation or post-harvest space to improve quality, capacity or efficiency.
How long does a build take?
It depends on the site, scope, permitting and equipment lead times. We build a realistic timeline and critical path early, so you can plan capital and staffing with confidence.
